A marsh wildfire near Groveland in Lake County, Florida, had spread across approximately 250 acres by Wednesday evening, prompting an aerial firefighting operation and a warning for the public to keep away from the area.
The Silver Eagle Road Marsh Fire is being monitored by the Florida Forest Service’s Withlacoochee Forestry Center, with Lake County Fire Rescue also involved in the response.
Helicopters deployed over Silver Eagle Road marsh fire
Two helicopters have been used to drop water on the blaze, while three bulldozers and ground crews were positioned near nearby housing developments to protect structures if necessary.
Firefighters have faced difficult conditions because much of the fire is burning in marshland and cannot be reached safely on foot. The blaze is located within a swamp area covering about 1,000 acres.
The City of Groveland said the fire began near Tawny Eagle Drive during a controlled burn and was spreading westwards and north-westwards. Its earlier alert said no homes were threatened at that stage.
The fire was visible from State Road 19, with officials urging drivers to exercise caution and avoid interfering with emergency operations.
“For the safety of both responders and the public, please avoid the area and allow personnel the space necessary to conduct their operations effectively,” the Florida Forest Service said.
Authorities have not reported any injuries or issued evacuation information. The operation remains ongoing.
