Witnesses who worked with Melissa Schuman on the film The Hollow have disputed aspects of her account in the ongoing Nick Carter sexual assault case, according to newly filed court documents.
Schuman is suing Carter, alleging that he sexually assaulted her in an apartment in Santa Monica, California, while they were both working on the 2003 film. Carter strongly denies the allegation and maintains that any sexual activity was consensual.
Daniel Levin, the film’s head producer, told Carter’s legal team that he observed Schuman interacting with the singer on set. He said he “did not observe any fear, distress, avoidance, or behavioral changes in Schuman that would have suggested she had been sexually assaulted by Carter”.
Levin also testified that any report of sexual assault would have been dealt with promptly by the film crew.
Another witness, Nils Larsen, was Schuman’s former manager. She has claimed that she told him about the alleged assault and that he discouraged her from contacting police.
Larsen denied that account in his testimony, saying Schuman never told him she had been assaulted. He said the only thing she had told him was that she had a crush on Carter.
Larsen also said he saw Schuman and Carter on the set of The Hollow and that everything appeared normal.
Schuman has also claimed that she told actor Kaley Cuoco about the alleged assault. Cuoco does not appear to have been deposed in the case.
