Wrexham have approached Jamie Vardy about a free transfer as the veteran striker weighs up his next move following his departure from Cremonese.
The 39-year-old is understood to be considering a number of offers, with Sheffield Wednesday, West Ham United and Brazilian club São Paulo also interested in securing his services.
Vardy is not bound by the transfer deadline after becoming a free agent, allowing him more time to assess his options before committing to a new club.
Wrexham approach Jamie Vardy over free transfer
According to talkSPORT, Wrexham have made contact with the former Leicester City forward as Phil Parkinson looks to add further experience and firepower to his squad.
Vardy spent last season with Cremonese in Serie A, scoring seven goals and registering three assists in 29 appearances. He was unable to prevent the Italian club from being relegated, but his contribution suggested he remains capable of making an impact at a competitive level.
Sheffield Wednesday could offer Vardy the chance to return to his home city, while West Ham may tempt him with another opportunity in the Premier League. São Paulo, meanwhile, would provide a route to ending his playing career outside Europe.
For Wrexham, the appeal would extend beyond the striker’s goalscoring record. Vardy would bring top-flight experience, a Premier League winners’ medal and the kind of pace and movement that could trouble Championship defences.
His arrival would also attract considerable attention to a club whose international profile has grown rapidly in recent years. However, Wrexham’s interest is understood to be based on his potential contribution on the pitch as well as his commercial appeal.
The key issues are likely to include Vardy’s wage demands and the role he would be offered. He may prefer guaranteed regular football, or could instead favour one final chance to compete in the Premier League.
Wrexham can offer him a prominent position in an ambitious project, while Sheffield Wednesday provide the personal pull of a hometown return and West Ham the attraction of top-flight football. Vardy is not expected to rush his decision.
