An 80-year-old man has died after a wrong-way driver crash involving three vehicles on Highway 29 North in Athens-Clarke County, Georgia.
Athens-Clarke County Police Department officers were called to the collision near Talley Crossing at about 6am on Thursday, September 3, 2026.
Investigators said Wayne Voyles, from Hull, was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox northbound in the southbound lanes when it struck a southbound 2022 Toyota Tacoma.
The impact forced the Tacoma into a 2022 Toyota Highlander, which was also travelling south. All three drivers were taken to hospital by emergency medical crews.
Mr Voyles later died from his injuries. The drivers of the Toyota vehicles were treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Police said Mr Voyles was the eighth person to die in a traffic collision in Athens-Clarke County this year.
The investigation remains under way. Anyone with information is asked to contact Master Police Officer Joey Lewis on 762-400-7169 or by email at Joey.Lewis@accgov.com.
