Diesel prices in California have reached a level at which some forecourt pumps can no longer display a higher figure, with stations showing the maximum possible price of $9.999 a gallon. GasBuddy, the fuel-price tracking company, said the figure had been confirmed at pumps in Serra Mesa, a suburb of San Diego, on Wednesday as the state average climbed to $7.91 a gallon. Patrick De Haan, GasBuddy’s head of petroleum analysis, said the company was checking reports from other locations. He cautioned, however, that a $9.999 display does not always mean fuel is being sold at that price, as some…
Martin Zubimendi could push to leave Arsenal in January if he fails to regain a regular starting place under Mikel Arteta, with Chelsea and Real Madrid among the clubs monitoring the Spain international. The 27-year-old is understood to be determined to establish himself at the Emirates but is reportedly prepared to reconsider his future before the winter transfer window if his first-team opportunities do not improve. Teamtalk reports that Zubimendi has already discussed his situation directly with Arteta. The Arsenal manager remains an admirer of the midfielder and is said to have reassured him that he will play an important…

San Francisco jerseys appeared to be particularly prominent, with Brock Purdy’s shirt among the most frequently seen as the 49ers’ travelling support gathered around the ground. The NFL has previously identified San Francisco as the most-supported team in Australia.…
A Georgia police sergeant has resigned after being arrested on charges including first-degree cruelty to children, aggravated assault and family-violence assault, just weeks after being promoted. The Pentagon is in talks to lend roughly $5 billion to AI cloud-computing start-up Fluidstack, in a move intended to strengthen the United States’ data-centre supply chain, according to the Wall Street Journal. The discussions, reported on Thursday September 10, are understood to be taking place through the Pentagon’s Office of Strategic Capital, which provides loans and loan guarantees to companies involved in technologies considered important to US national security. The proposed financing has not been finalised and the report was not immediately independently verified. The Pentagon and Fluidstack did not immediately comment. The Office of Strategic Capital was established…
Australian renters face a bitter political dispute over Labor’s housing tax changes, after competing forecasts suggested the reforms could add between $2 and $10 a week to rents over time. Health Minister Mark Butler has backed Treasury’s estimate, while Deputy Opposition Leader Jane Hume accused the government of ignoring warnings from the property industry that the impact on tenants could be several times greater. The changes, due to begin in 2027–28, would restrict negative gearing on residential property to new builds and replace the existing 50 per cent capital gains tax discount with inflation-adjusted indexation. Existing investments made before the…

In a brief statement, he said: “It was an honour and a privilege to serve the president and the department.” He declined to explain the reason for his sudden departure. His wife, attorney Victoria Toensing, who had also been working with federal prosecutors in Fort Pierce, Florida, is due to leave the department on Friday. The resignation…

People close to the Sussexes said their immediate priority was helping Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, settle into the new school year. The couple have returned to Britain for an extended stay after relocating to California more than six years ago. “Getting their children settled as they begin a new school year has been, and remains, their focus,” insiders said.
