Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has suffered a ruptured ACL, leaving Paris Saint-Germain without one of their key attacking players for what is likely to be the rest of the season.
The injury was confirmed after scans following PSG’s Champions League victory over Barcelona. Kvaratskhelia was helped from the pitch by two team-mates during the second half, raising immediate concerns over the severity of the problem.

The 25-year-old winger is also among the favourites for the Ballon d’Or and is due to discover on Friday whether he has won the award.
PSG’s match against Barcelona had been billed as a meeting between two of Europe’s strongest sides and lived up to its billing, with six goals and 40 shots in an attacking contest. The Parisian side eventually prevailed after Barcelona began to tire in the closing stages.
However, PSG paid a heavy price for the victory, with three players leaving the field injured after the interval. Ousmane Dembele and Marquinhos appeared to suffer hamstring problems, while Kvaratskhelia’s departure proved considerably more serious.
PSG added Ferran Torres, Maghnes Akliouche and Mika Godts during the summer and have attacking alternatives available. Even so, the French club will be weakened by the loss of a player who has made a major impact since joining from Napoli.
