Detroit-born author BreYanna Chism has released a new children’s book designed to help young readers understand and manage their emotions.
The Super Kids follows five siblings who discover that their greatest powers are not extraordinary physical abilities, but emotional-regulation skills they can use in everyday situations.
Each character is based on one of Chism’s children and represents a different technique, including calming the body, pausing before reacting, expressing feelings, speaking with courage and showing kindness.
The story places the siblings in an ordinary school day that becomes increasingly challenging as small problems grow. By using their individual strengths, they learn how to respond positively and support those around them.
Chism, who has worked in early childhood education, said the book aims to show children that they already have the inner resources needed to make good choices and deal with difficult emotions.
The Super Kids was published in September 2026 by Blu Fountain Streams Publications. The paperback is illustrated by Titan Fahmi and runs to 26 pages.
Chism’s earlier children’s books include Beautiful Boy: It’s Okay to Cry and Sometimes I Get Angry… and That’s Okay!, which also focus on emotional awareness and self-regulation.
