Alan Shearer has reportedly identified Fabian Hurzeler as his preferred candidate to replace Michael Carrick at Manchester United, should the club decide to part company with their manager.
The former Premier League winner is understood to have placed the Brighton boss at the top of a three-man shortlist of potential successors.
The suggestion comes after United’s 4-1 Champions League defeat by Como, a result that has intensified scrutiny of Carrick and his coaching staff.
United captain Bruno Fernandes has also questioned the decision not to use a man-to-man pressing approach during the loss, adding to the focus on the club’s tactics and leadership.
