Mod Sun has paid tribute to his former girlfriend Sahara Ray following her death, describing the 34-year-old as “pure magic” and “a true love of mine”.
The musician shared an emotional message on Instagram on Wednesday, recalling the bond they shared and the lasting influence Ray had on his life.
“This is who Sahara was in this world. Pure magic. She could turn any moment into art,” he wrote. He added that her presence could make a room feel vibrant whenever she walked into it.
Mod Sun also remembered that they shared the same birthday, saying it had always felt as though they were “somehow sharing the same soul”. He recalled trips they took together to Hawaii, Big Sur and Minnesota, and said he had never felt freer than when he was with her.
Although their relationship had ended, he said his love and admiration for Ray had continued. “She was my inspiration before, during, + long after we dated. She was a true love of mine,” he wrote.
Ray was also remembered in the tribute as someone who viewed life differently, with Mod Sun calling her the “ETERNAL IT GIRL”. He referred to her connection with nature, infectious laugh and distinctive sense of style.
Ray died on Sunday night in hospital surrounded by family, her relatives said. Her official cause of death has not been confirmed.
She welcomed a daughter, Snow, in January, and her final Instagram post in July featured photographs of the child. In 2024, Ray also spoke about battling Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare neurological disorder, after a serious car accident.
Mod Sun ended his message with a final farewell: “Life will never be the same without your energy. I love you Hara…I always have + I always will. Save a spot for me in the forest angel.”
