Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are monitoring Brentford striker Igor Thiago ahead of the January transfer window, with Atletico Madrid also reported to be interested in the Brazilian international.
The 25-year-old has become an important figure for Brentford, attracting attention through his finishing, physical presence and work rate. Several clubs are understood to be considering a move for the forward in the coming months.
Tottenham and Aston Villa assess Igor Thiago option
Tottenham could view Thiago as a potential addition to their centre-forward options. His ability to hold up the ball, compete in the air and create opportunities inside the penalty area would offer another dimension to their attack.
Aston Villa are also keeping tabs on the striker as they assess their attacking options. His strength and capacity to lead the line could appeal to manager Unai Emery if Villa decide to strengthen during the winter window.
Atletico Madrid are reportedly among Thiago’s leading admirers, with Diego Simeone said to view him as a possible partner for Julian Alvarez. The Brazilian’s physical qualities could complement Alvarez’s movement and creativity in the final third.
Brentford set substantial valuation for striker
Any potential deal is likely to prove difficult, however, with Brentford in a strong negotiating position. The striker is contracted until June 2031 and the club are reportedly seeking between €80 million and €90 million before considering negotiations.
Brentford’s resolve was underlined when Nottingham Forest reportedly saw a €70 million offer rejected during the previous transfer window. The Bees are also understood to be reluctant to weaken their attack in the middle of the season.
Tottenham and Aston Villa may therefore have to consider alternative targets if Brentford maintain their valuation. For now, Thiago remains an appealing option for clubs seeking to add strength and presence to their frontline.
