Brooklyn Beckham’s public praise for Sir Elton John during a birthday celebration in Venice has prompted questions over its timing, as his estrangement from his parents, David and Victoria Beckham, continues.
Brooklyn, 27, and his wife Nicola Peltz were among the guests at a lavish gathering for David Furnish, Elton John’s husband, who turned 64.
Sharing photographs from the Italian trip on Instagram, Brooklyn wrote: “What an unforgettable weekend celebrating you @davidfurnish x.”
He added: “I am so lucky to have you both as my godparents.”
Brooklyn also thanked the luxury hotel that hosted the celebrations, writing: “Thank you so so much for having us @airellesvenice x I love you so so much xx.”
Peltz, 31, posted her own tribute to Furnish, describing herself as “blessed” to have him in their lives.
“Truly the most unforgettable weekend celebrating the kindest and chicest, one and only @davidfurnish happy birthday!!” she wrote. “I love you so much and feel so blessed to have you in our lives. You make everything so much brighter!”
The affectionate messages have drawn criticism from some social media users, who questioned whether it was insensitive to praise Brooklyn’s godparents while he remains estranged from his own parents.
One person commented: “Yeah you are a lucky boy thanks to your parents!” Another wrote: “Call your parents.”
The family rift became more public in January 2026, when Brooklyn published a statement accusing David and Victoria of trying to control his image, finances and marriage to Peltz. His parents have largely maintained a united public front.
Elton John has been close to the Beckham family since David’s football career. David and Victoria asked the singer to become Brooklyn’s godfather after his birth in 1999, and he later took on the same role for Brooklyn’s younger brother, Romeo.
The families became closely connected over the years, with the Beckham children referring to Elton as “Uncle Elton”.
