Israeli air strikes in Gaza have killed at least two Palestinians, including a child, and wounded seven others in the Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood of northern Gaza, according to territory health officials.
The Israeli military said it had targeted a militant in the area on Tuesday but did not provide further details.
Witnesses said a second strike hit near people who had gathered to help rescue those caught in the initial attack. A video that had not been independently verified appeared to show a missile exploding close to a group of men.
The strikes came as Palestinians held funerals in Gaza for two people killed in Israeli attacks the previous day: Ahmed Al-Batsh and Rafat Zummar.
Hamas sources and the Israeli military identified Mr Al-Batsh as a local Hamas commander. Medics said he was killed when his vehicle was attacked in northern Gaza.
The Israeli military also said it had killed Mr Zummar and described him as a Hamas commander. Hamas did not immediately comment on his alleged affiliation.
Relatives and friends gathered at Gaza City’s Al Shifa Hospital to pay tribute to Mr Al-Batsh, whose body was wrapped in a white shroud and covered with a Hamas flag. An M16 assault rifle was placed on top of the body.
Khalil Al-Batsh, a relative, said: “Israel thinks… it will eliminate the resistance and the spirit of jihad (devotion) within us.”
He added: “I tell them that this cowardly operation only strengthens our people’s determination to continue on this path.”
A US-backed ceasefire reached in October 2025 halted large-scale fighting in Gaza but has not stopped Israeli strikes, while efforts towards a permanent peace have made little progress.
Hamas has accused Israel of violating the ceasefire and obstructing the wider plan put forward by US President Donald Trump, which includes an Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and the disarmament of Hamas. Israel has accused Hamas of breaching the agreement.
More than 1,300 Palestinians, most of them civilians, have been killed in Gaza since the ceasefire began, according to territory health officials. The Israeli military says four Israeli soldiers have been killed during the same period.
