Radio presenter Chrissie Swan has revealed that a medical emergency left her in hospital for an extended period, explaining her weeks-long absence from the airwaves.
The 52-year-old TV favourite addressed concerned followers in an Instagram video, saying she was feeling better than she had in weeks but did not yet know when she would return to radio.
“A couple of months ago, I had a medical emergency, completely unplanned as emergencies are, and I was in hospital for ages,” Swan said.
She recalled that her previous hospital visits had been connected with the births of her children, adding: “This was certainly not that.”
Swan has since been recovering at home, where she said she had been sleeping, reading and tackling jobs around the house, including “sorting out the spice draw finally”.
In a caption accompanying the video, she reassured followers that she was being cared for at home, which she calls “The Compound”. “I am OK, and I am going to be OK. I am recovering,” she wrote.
She thanked fans for their messages and apologised for causing concern, acknowledging that the situation had also been worrying for her. She has not disclosed the cause of the medical emergency.
Swan said she would return to radio when she felt better, but gave no timeframe. “As soon as I’m better, I will be back,” she told followers.
She added that she wanted to wait until she felt like herself for longer than an hour at a time before returning to The Chrissie Swan Show, which airs nationally on the Nova Network on weekday afternoons.
