Storms could disrupt World Series watch parties in Wisconsin on Wednesday night, with showers and isolated thunderstorms expected to develop as a cold front moves across the state.
A warm front lifting into northern Wisconsin is expected to strengthen southerly winds and push afternoon temperatures into the 70s Fahrenheit, or roughly 21-24C, before conditions turn more unsettled overnight.
Storm risk varies across Wisconsin
The greatest risk of severe weather is in north-western Wisconsin, where storms could bring large hail, damaging winds and an isolated tornado, according to the National Weather Service.
Most of the state is not expected to experience severe weather. However, scattered showers and a few thunderstorms may reach south-east Wisconsin late on Wednesday evening and continue into the early hours of Thursday.
Any storm in the region could produce heavy rain, gusty winds, lightning and small hail. The National Weather Service said spotter activation would not be needed in south-east Wisconsin, reflecting the limited overall threat in the area.
In Milwaukee, conditions should remain mild during the World Series game, with temperatures in the mid-60s Fahrenheit — about 18C. Cloud cover is expected to thicken through the evening as the approaching front moves closer from the west.
Rain and isolated, non-severe storms are most likely towards the end of the game and shortly afterwards. The National Weather Service’s outlook puts the main window for thunderstorms in south-east Wisconsin late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning.
People attending outdoor watch parties in Milwaukee and surrounding communities are therefore likely to start the evening in dry conditions, but should be prepared for a late change in the weather.
