The family of a man who died alongside NASCAR driver Greg Biffle in a plane crash is asking a court to halt the sale and distribution of assets from Biffle’s estate.
Elena Smith, administrator of the estate of Craig Wadsworth, alleges that property and personal memorabilia have been disposed of while wrongful death claims against the estate remain unresolved.
Wadsworth, described as Biffle’s longtime right-hand man, was among seven people killed when a private jet crashed shortly after taking off from Statesville Regional Airport in North Carolina on December 18, 2025.
Smith claims Biffle’s niece, Jordyn Biffle Carpenter, who is administering the estate, took control of the driver’s real estate company, NC Property LLC. Court documents allege that several parcels of land have since been sold for a combined $1.6 million, without details being provided about where the proceeds went.
The petition also alleges that Biffle’s yacht, Checkered Past, has been put up for sale in Florida for more than $4 million, despite not appearing in the estate’s inventory.
Smith further claims that Carpenter hosted a party at Biffle’s mountain ranch in August, where the late driver’s personal memorabilia was handed out to guests.
She is asking the court to stop any further sales or distributions, order a full accounting of the estate’s assets and remove Carpenter as administrator. The petition also seeks the appointment of a neutral person to oversee the estate.
In addition, Smith alleges that Carpenter concealed a will signed by Biffle months before his death, which purportedly named other people to administer his estate.
The legal dispute comes as Biffle’s estate faces at least $50 million in wrongful death claims connected to the crash. A claim exceeding $10 million has been filed on behalf of Wadsworth, while the estates of pilot Dennis Dutton and his son, Jack, sued Biffle’s estate in April for a combined $30 million.
That lawsuit alleges that Biffle was responsible for the crash, in part because of inadequate aircraft maintenance.
Biffle won 19 Cup Series races during his NASCAR career and became the first driver to win championships in both the Truck and Xfinity Series.
A hearing on Smith’s request to freeze the estate’s assets is scheduled for next week.
