Victoria Beckham has revealed that her 15-year-old daughter Harper asked her to intervene after being told she could not wear make-up at school.
The fashion designer said Harper, who enjoys applying natural make-up, was puzzled by the rule and wanted her mother to contact the school on her behalf.
Recalling the conversation during a television appearance, Beckham said Harper told her: “They’ve told me that I’m not allowed to wear make-up for school.”
She added that her daughter then asked: “Why don’t they want me to look my best?” before pleading: “Mummy can’t you call the school?”
Beckham said she refused, replying: “I can’t Harper.”
Harper is preparing to launch her own skincare and beauty brand, reportedly called Harlo by Harper. The teenager has already completed her first photoshoot for the project, which is expected to launch in the second half of next year, after she sits her GCSEs.
Beckham previously described her daughter as being “really good at applying natural make-up” and has predicted that she could become “a beauty mogul”.
Speaking about their shared interest in beauty, Beckham said: “She loves make-up and skincare. She has really struggled with her skin.”
“Harper loves to go shopping and make-up shopping, and that’s such a nice feeling that we can do that together.”
Harper’s Harlo by Harper beauty brand
The brand has encountered difficulties in the United States, where Harper’s application to trademark the name Harlo by Harper was refused by the US Patent and Trademark Office.
The ruling said the proposed name was likely to be confused with an existing registered mark, Harlo, used by a company selling dietary supplements. It said the additional words “by Harper” did not sufficiently distinguish the names.
Harper’s application has been approved in the UK by the Intellectual Property Office.
The applications were made by Project Seven US Inc, a company controlled by her parents, Beckham and former footballer David Beckham.
Harper’s middle name, Seven, is a reference to her father’s former shirt number for Manchester United and England. It also reflects that she weighed 7lb at birth and was born in July.
More than $3 million (£2.3 million) has reportedly been invested in launching the skincare brand. The figure was disclosed in the first accounts filed by H7B Ltd, a company established by Beckham and Oliver Shipton, who works with her at Victoria Beckham Beauty.
