A Melbourne factory fire has been deemed suspicious after firefighters battled the blaze in the city’s outer north during the early hours.
Fire and Rescue Victoria crews arrived within six minutes of receiving the call shortly after 3am and found the building “issuing smoke and fire”.
The emergency response was expanded as the flames intensified, with five firetrucks, two aerial units, a rescue unit and three other specialist crews sent to the scene.
Authorities issued a community advice message warning residents about the fire and the large amount of smoke it was generating. The blaze was brought under control at 4.36am.
Victoria Police specialist investigators are examining the cause of the fire, which has been classified as suspicious. Police said nobody was inside the building when it started.
The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with vision of the incident has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
