Liverpool have received an encouraging injury update on Alexander Isak, Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai ahead of Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Brentford.
The trio have missed Liverpool’s last two fixtures after returning from international duty, including the 3-0 defeat by Manchester City and Wednesday’s 6-3 Champions League win over LASK.
However, manager Andoni Iraola has not ruled out any of the three players for the trip to the Gtech Community Stadium. Their involvement is expected to depend on how they respond to Liverpool’s final training session before the match.
Liverpool injury update ahead of Brentford
Iraola said it was still too early to make a definitive assessment, explaining that none of the players had been ready to feature against LASK but that a return this weekend remained possible.
“It’s early for us to say. We have training tomorrow, they weren’t ready last night. We have to wait and see. I leave the chance open (for them to be available on Saturday),” he said.
Isak sustained a thigh problem while on duty with Sweden, while Gakpo suffered an ankle injury during the Netherlands’ international commitments. Szoboszlai returned from Hungary duty with hamstring tightness.
Although none of the injuries has been described as a long-term concern, Liverpool have taken a cautious approach rather than rushing the players back into action.
Their availability for Brentford therefore remains uncertain, with the final training session likely to provide the clearest indication of whether they will travel.
Liverpool respond to Manchester City defeat
Liverpool managed without the three players in midweek but produced a commanding response to their loss against Manchester City by beating Austrian side LASK 6-3 in the Champions League.
Summer signing Bradley Barcola led the attack with a hat-trick, while Ronald Araujo, Jeremie Frimpong and academy player Lewis Koumas were also on the scoresheet.
The result was Liverpool’s highest-scoring European away win in 25 years and gave Iraola’s side momentum ahead of their return to Premier League action against Brentford.
