Jesse Baird and Luke Davies were “smitten” with each other in the weeks before they were allegedly murdered, a jury in the NSW Supreme Court has heard.
Mr Baird’s mother, Helen, said the television presenter and Qantas flight attendant had met at a New Year’s Eve party in December 2023 and quickly developed a close relationship.
“It was early days but they were both smitten with each other and they were great together,” she told the court.
Ms Baird recalled receiving a photograph of her son and Mr Davies at a Pink concert in Sydney, along with the message: “Luke’s my boyfriend.”
“I just sent a big love heart and said I’m so happy for both of you,” she said through tears.

Mr Baird’s close friend Matthew Edwards said he had never seen him happier after the couple began dating.
“He was almost falling in love with him,” Mr Edwards told the jury. “I’d never seen Jesse as happy … There was something about Luke that just lit Jesse up. They were the real deal.”
Mr Baird, 26, was a presenter on Studio 10. His former colleague Briony Blackstone said he had spoken enthusiastically about Mr Davies during a catch-up around a week before the alleged killings.
“He spoke about Luke … he said how much he liked him, and he said that he had asked Luke to be his boyfriend and Luke had said yes,” Ms Blackstone said.
Former police officer Beau Lamarre-Condon is accused of disguising himself as an Uber Eats rider before killing the pair at Mr Baird’s home in Paddington, Sydney, in February 2024.
He denies the murder allegations and is arguing self-defence during the jury trial. The proceedings are due to continue on Thursday.
