A single-engine aircraft made an emergency landing on the shoulder of Interstate 69 in Flint Township, Michigan, after an engine failure while descending towards Bishop International Airport.
The pilot was the only person on board and was not injured, according to Flint Township Police. No other vehicles were damaged when the aircraft came down near the junction with Interstate 75 and the Bristol Road exit.
The plane was identified by Bishop Airport officials as a DA-20 aircraft. The airport authority said its personnel attended the scene and later cleared it, with the incident not affecting airport operations.
Westbound lanes of I-69 near Bristol Road were closed temporarily as emergency crews dealt with the incident.
Flint Township police are investigating the cause of the mechanical failure with the Federal Aviation Administration and officials at Bishop International Airport.
