Neiman Marcus’s historic flagship store in downtown Dallas will close on Wednesday, September 30, ending more than a century at the corner of Main and Ervay streets.
The luxury retailer, founded in Dallas, has operated from the landmark location for more than 100 years. Its final closure follows a decision by parent company Saks Global to concentrate its Dallas operations at the Neiman Marcus store in NorthPark Center.
Saks Global said the decision followed a review of its retail estate and was intended to align the company’s future presence with customer demand. The announcement came after earlier efforts by city and business leaders to keep the downtown store open beyond its previously proposed closure.
Elements of the flagship’s history, including its Zodiac restaurant, are due to be incorporated into the NorthPark operation. Active orders and alterations placed at the downtown store are also expected to continue through the transition.
The closure is expected to affect 67 employees at the downtown site, according to a notice filed with the Texas Workforce Commission. Some staff may be offered the opportunity to transfer to the NorthPark store.
Visitors have been gathering at the Main Street location in its final days, with shoppers and former customers returning to mark the end of one of downtown Dallas’s best-known retail landmarks.
