A man in his 50s has died after being struck by a BNSF freight train at a crossing in Minneapolis early on Saturday, October 3.
The collision happened at about 1.23am near 14th Avenue and Quincy Street, according to officials. No members of the train crew were injured.
Minneapolis police said witnesses reported that the man had been walking home when he fell on to the tracks while trying to place a penny on a rail. He was hit by the approaching train and died at the scene.

Authorities have not disclosed the man’s identity. The circumstances leading up to the incident remain under investigation.
BNSF said the crossing was fitted with gates, warning lights and bells, and that all of the safety equipment was operating at the time of the collision.
Police and railway officials are continuing to examine what happened.
