A petting zoo on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula has been cleared of responsibility for the death of a three-year-old girl from a rare infection and the hospitalisation of another child.
Both children visited Rain, Hayne and Shine Farm in Balnarring earlier this year. However, the health department found no confirmed link between their illnesses and the farm, and the source of the infections remains unknown.
An investigation concluded that the farmyard was not responsible for the incidents.
Despite the finding, the farm has introduced additional safety measures, including extra hand-washing basins.
The farm has operated for decades and said last month that this was the only time it had been linked to this type of illness.
The owners previously expressed their deepest condolences and issued a message to parents: “Look after your kids. Look after your kids.”
