Google is rolling out an update to Pixel’s Now Playing app, introducing a redesigned menu and small changes intended to make it easier to manage identified songs.
The update replaces the existing floating menu, opened by tapping the three-dot icon beside a track, with a bottom sheet that slides up from the bottom of the screen. The layout is designed to be more convenient to use one-handed.
Details of the identified song are shown above three side-by-side controls for sharing it, adding it to favourites or removing it from the listening history. Users can also play the track and access shortcuts linked to their connected music-streaming service.
Google has also added dates and times to the Favourites tab, bringing it into line with the History feed. Changes to the Now Playing settings page include revised icons and adjustments to spacing.
The latest changes follow a broader redesign launched in March. Google restored the “Tap to see what’s playing” lock-screen shortcut in April, allowing users to manually identify music when automatic recognition does not provide an answer.
Version 2026.08.27.x of Pixel Now Playing is being distributed widely through the Google Play Store. The release comes after recent updates to other Pixel apps, including additional tools for Pixel Journal and new filtering options in Screenshots.
