A Queensland man has been refused bail after an alleged Sydney police chase in which a car crossed suburban streets, entered a golf course and was later driven into a police vehicle.
Christopher Perry, 38, is accused of failing to stop for a breath test on Anzac Parade before speeding through Sydney’s east during Halloween celebrations on Saturday.
Police allege the concreter reached more than 100km/h in a 50km/h zone and drove on the wrong side of the road while travelling along Austral Street and Bilga Crescent.
The car was then taken towards The Coast Golf Club in Malabar, where officers say the pair attempted to abandon it. Perry allegedly fled on foot and tried to hide in the front yard of a nearby home.
Witness Gillian Oliver said she saw a man lying beneath a hedge and a wall before a small white car arrived.
“There was a man lying on the ground, underneath the hedge and the wall,” she said. “A little white car screeched up, stopped. The guy got up, got into the car and then they drove up Anzac Parade on the wrong side of the road.”
The pursuit ended on Soul Arch Avenue, where the two were cornered. Police allege the hatchback was reversed into a police car before both occupants were arrested.
Perry is facing five charges, including dangerous driving. Sanara Rogers, 45, has been charged with resisting police.
Perry remained behind bars on Sunday night after his application for bail was refused.
