Manchester United are interested in Nico Paz after the Como attacking midfielder scored twice and supplied an assist in their 4-1 Champions League victory over the Premier League side.
The performance has intensified speculation over a possible move for the 22-year-old ahead of next season. Chelsea are also understood to be monitoring Paz, although Real Madrid have a significant advantage in the race.
Journalist Nicolò Schira has reported that United and Chelsea are keeping a close watch on the Argentina-born playmaker’s situation. Real Madrid, meanwhile, hold an €80 million buy-back clause which becomes active in July 2027.
Football Italia reports that Como paid around €60 million to retain Paz during the summer, but Madrid still secured the right to bring him back to the Spanish club.
Why Manchester United are interested in Nico Paz
Paz’s display against United illustrated the qualities attracting interest from leading European clubs. He can operate between the lines, carry the ball under pressure, create chances and contribute goals.
His two goals and assist against United took his tally to four goals and five assists in 10 appearances in all competitions this season, according to FootballTransfers.
The midfielder has also received strong praise from former Real Madrid Castilla coach Raúl González, who described Paz as “possibly the best footballer I have coached” after his Champions League performance.
For United, Paz’s versatility could make him an attractive option as they look to develop a younger creative core around the eventual succession to Bruno Fernandes.
The main complication is Madrid’s buy-back option. If Paz continues to develop at his current rate, the Spanish club could activate the clause and remove United and Chelsea from the decision-making process.
United must therefore decide whether to pursue the Como midfielder before Madrid’s option becomes active, having seen first-hand the impact he can make.
