Russell Brand has been found guilty of rape and three sexual assaults at Southwark Crown Court in London and told he faces a lengthy prison sentence.
The comedian and actor, 51, was acquitted of two further rape charges and an attempted indecent assault. Judge Joel Bennathan said Brand would be sentenced on Monday.
Brand, who denied the accusations, said the incidents had either been consensual, reinvented or re-imagined. Prosecutors described him as a ruthless sexual predator.
The charges relate to incidents between 1999 and 2009, during the period in which Brand progressed from performing stand-up comedy in small venues to becoming a television presenter and Hollywood film star.
Brand was taken to the cells ahead of a bail application at 3pm.
Evidence from six complainants
The six complainants, who are entitled to lifelong anonymity, gave tearful and forceful evidence during the case. None of the women knew each other, but all went to the police after anonymous allegations were reported in a television documentary and press reports in 2023.
The rape conviction concerned an incident in 2009. The woman involved had met Brand after a gig, where she had engaged in a sexual encounter in his dressing room.
She told the court that days later she went to his home and, during consensual sex, Brand raped her anally. She said he later told her to clear up the blood and mess.
Brand was also convicted of sexually assaulting a woman at a London bar in 2004. She said he approached her at a party and grabbed her breasts.
A further conviction related to an incident in 2009, when Brand demanded that a woman give him a massage while they worked on promoting a project. She said he then put his head between her legs in front of two of his colleagues.
Another woman, who worked for a radio station, said Brand assaulted her during a frenzied attack in front of his entourage in 2004 or 2005.
