Sal Everett will keep his job as Dana White’s assistant despite signing a UFC contract after winning on the Contender Series.
The 29-year-old, who works as a runner for White and the UFC, said he has continued working since securing his deal. His duties include running personal errands and stocking White’s fridge.
“I’ve been working. I worked yesterday and I worked today. I’m at work right now, actually,” Everett said.
Everett, who has a 5-0 record, said he had no intention of leaving the role. “I love my job, so it’s not like I was working so hard to get away from stocking Dana’s fridge,” he said.
“Dana’s been blessing me in this position, and yeah, some days are stressful, but it’s work, you know? I’m a working man, I’m not lazy. I like to be here.”
Everett earned his UFC contract in Las Vegas after knocking out Ozzy Martin about halfway through the first round. White presented him with the deal following the victory.
“Sal, we’ve had title fights in here, and I don’t know if it’s ever been as loud as it was tonight,” White told him.
White also praised Everett’s character, saying: “Everybody at the UFC loves you, you’re a great kid. Forget fighting and the contract, you’re a great human being. This could not happen to a better person. You have worked your way from the bottom up.”
Everett is now considering when he wants to return to the Octagon, while continuing with his work for White and the UFC.
