Krasnyi Oktyabr Inc, a wholesale distributor based in Brooklyn, New York, announced the voluntary recall on 9 October 2026 after the potential contamination was identified by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets.
The company said no illnesses had been reported in connection with the product. It is co-operating with the state department and the US Food and Drug Administration over the recall. Which smoked fish is affected?
The recalled item is the Starfish Seafood Trio, containing cold-smoked salmon, halibut and trout. It was sold in an 8oz (227g) vacuum-sealed plastic package under lot number D139149161-153, with an expiry date of 1 December 2027.
The product originated in Latvia, although Krasnyi Oktyabr said it did not manufacture the seafood. The distributor has asked retailers to stop selling and distributing the affected packs, check their stock and notify customers where necessary. ([fda.gov](https://www.fda.gov/safety/recalls-market-withdrawals-safety-alerts/krasnyi-oktyabr-inc-recalls-starfish-seafood-trio-because-possible-health-risk))
Consumers should check the lot number and expiry date on any Starfish Seafood Trio they have bought. Anyone with a matching pack should not eat it and should return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Listeria can survive and grow in refrigerated food. Infection may cause fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhoea, while pregnant women, young children, older people and those with weakened immune systems face a greater risk of serious illness.
Consumers with questions about the recall can contact Krasnyi Oktyabr on +1 718 858 6720, Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm Eastern Time.
