Saturday Night Live UK has criticised Shane Gillis following his controversial appearance as host of the US version of the comedy show.
Weekend Update presenter Ania Magliano targeted the comedian after his opening monologue included a joke describing women in gyms as “whores”. Actor Dan Levy had also criticised the remark, calling it “downright misogynistic”.
Magliano referred to Gillis’s use of an uncensored swear word during a live sketch, writing: “You’re not allowed to say the F-word on live TV, you stupid f***ing c***.”
Gillis accidentally used the expletive while playing the son of the Cat in the Hat during the US programme’s October 10 episode. He recognised the mistake and apologised at the end of the sketch, saying: “Sorry about earlier.”
The British show also featured a surprise appearance by James Austin Johnson, who plays Donald Trump on the US programme. Johnson brought his Trump impression into a sketch involving British Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The appearance came while the American Saturday Night Live is on a scheduled break. Its next new episode is due to air on October 31, hosted by Obsession star Inde Navarrette.
