Spice Girls fans who had hoped for news of a reunion tour have instead been presented with a high-priced collector’s release marking 30 years since the group’s debut album.
The band unveiled The Singles Collection after a cryptic social media teaser prompted speculation that Victoria Beckham, Mel B, Geri Halliwell, Melanie C and Emma Bunton might be preparing to perform together again.
The announcement came after the group’s official Instagram account posted footage of a newspaper placed on the same steps featured in the video for their 1996 debut hit, Wannabe. An advert in the paper called for people able to sing and dance and added: “No sheet music required, but you will need a vinyl or CD player.”
Rather than announcing live dates, the group confirmed that it would release two limited-edition versions of The Singles Collection on 6 November 2026.
Spice Girls collection includes rare recordings
The release will be available as a 14-disc coloured-vinyl box set and a 14-disc CD edition. It brings together the group’s singles, B-sides and rare remixes, alongside previously unreleased material from the archive. The CD version contains 160 tracks, while both editions include new messages from all five members, collectible art cards and a 30th anniversary acrylic charm. One of the previously unreleased recordings is Do You Think About Me, described by Universal Music as one of the band’s earliest demos. The vinyl edition is priced at $349.99, while the CD box set costs $199.99. The collection is being released 30 years after Spice, the album that established the group as a global pop phenomenon.
Although some collectors welcomed the archive material, the reaction to the teaser was largely shaped by disappointment that it did not lead to a reunion announcement.
“This could have been an email,” one fan wrote, while another joked: “I hear the Millennial sigh of devastation from across the world.” Other fans described the release as a “money grab” and called for the five members to tour together.
The Spice Girls’ debut single, Wannabe, reached number one in 37 countries and was followed by the album Spice in November 1996. The record became the best-selling album by a girl group, according to the announcement.
Geri Halliwell left the band during its 1998 world tour, and the remaining members announced an indefinite hiatus in December 2000. The group formally disbanded the following year, although all five reunited for a 2008 tour and later performed at the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics.
The band returned to the stage in 2019 for a UK tour without Beckham, who did not take part. The most recent full reunion came in 2024, when the five members gathered to celebrate Beckham’s 50th birthday, but no new tour has been announced.
