The live-action Street Fighter film is due in cinemas this weekend, bringing Capcom’s popular Japanese video game franchise to the big screen with a cast that includes Jason Momoa, Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo and Curtis Jackson.
Directed by Kitao Sakurai, the film was shot for IMAX in Australia last year. Its cast listing also includes Alexander Volkanovski, Andrew Schulz, Callina Liang, Cody Rhodes, David Dastmalchian, Eric Andre, Hirooki Goto, Kyle Mooney, Mel Jarnson, Olivier Richters, Orville Peck, Rayna Vallandingham, Roman Reigns and Vidyut Jammwal.
The Street Fighter film’s story
Set in 1993, the story follows estranged fighters Ryu and Ken Masters as they are drawn back into combat by Chun-Li, who recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament.
The tournament brings together a series of brutal clashes, while a hidden conspiracy forces the two former allies to confront one another and the unresolved demons of their past.
The film has been designed to take the action of the arcade game into cinemas, with the production promising signature moves including Hadoukens and roundhouse kicks alongside familiar characters from the franchise.
Street Fighter marks a new live-action adaptation of the Capcom series, with the theatrical release providing audiences with the chance to see its characters reimagined for the big screen.
