Five stores operated by Australian womenswear retailer Cue Clothing Co will close as administrators work to secure a buyer for the struggling business.
The closures will affect four Cue outlets and one Veronika Maine shop, just days after the Sydney-based company entered voluntary administration.
The stores being shut are the Veronika Maine outlet in Mosman, Sydney, and Cue branches in Woden in the Australian Capital Territory, Parramatta in western Sydney, Armadale south-east of Perth and Melbourne Central.
Administrators Kate Warwick and Vaughan Strawbridge, from FTI Consulting, said there had been strong initial interest from prospective buyers. Expressions of interest are due in early October.
Cue Clothing Co operates about 50 stores across Australia and also sells its clothing through Myer and David Jones. The business was founded in 1968 and opened its first shop in Sydney’s Strand Arcade.
The Levis family sold the retailer last year to Hilco Capital, a British distressed-assets investor specialising in turning around underperforming businesses.
Administrators said an improvement in sales had not been enough to offset rising overhead costs.
The Australian fashion sector has faced increasing pressure from fast-fashion chains and online retailers such as Shein. Mosaic Brands, which owns Katies, Noni B, Autograph and Crossroads, entered voluntary administration in 2024 before all of its roughly 700 stores were closed by receivers in early 2025.
Colette by Colette Hayman entered voluntary administration in 2020 and later became an online-only retailer, with its handbags sold through David Jones.
