One person has been killed and five others injured in a shooting during a rave in the Swiss town of Aarau, as police continue a large-scale search for the attacker.
The shooting happened shortly after 2.30am on Sunday at the Schachen horse-racing track, where the “Aarau Rave Vol. 7” event was taking place, according to Aargau Cantonal Police. Some of those injured are understood to be in a serious condition.
Police said the identity of the suspected gunman, or gunmen, was not known and that the motive remained unclear. A large operation was launched in response, with officers deployed around Aarau and beyond the town as a precaution.
The area around the racecourse, swimming pool and sports facilities has been sealed off. Residents and visitors have been told to stay away while investigators examine the scene.
An emergency helicopter was also mobilised, alongside police and rescue teams. Officers have appealed to witnesses to provide any photographs or video recorded at the event or in the surrounding area.
The rave’s organisers had expected about 2,500 people to attend, although it was not immediately clear how many were present when the shots were fired. Local reports said the event was still under way at the time.
Police said the circumstances of the shooting were still being established and urged anyone with information to contact them.
