Taylor Swift fans are speculating that the singer could announce new music when she attends the 60th annual CMA Awards in Nashville in November.
Swift is nominated for Single of the Year at the Country Music Association ceremony for I Knew It, I Knew You, a song featured on the Toy Story 5 soundtrack. She is up against two tracks by Ella Langley, as well as songs by Lainey Wilson and Cody Johnson.
The Country Music Association has confirmed that the ceremony will take place at Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday, November 18, and will be broadcast live on ABC and Disney+, with the programme available on Hulu the following day.
Swift’s expected appearance has prompted a wave of speculation among supporters, many of whom believe she could use the event to announce a re-recorded version of her self-titled debut album.
The project has been nicknamed “debut TV” by fans, following Swift’s campaign to reclaim control of her early recordings through new versions labelled “Taylor’s Version”.
“So if she’s attending for just one nomination, that means she WILL WIN and ANNOUNCE DEBUT TV,” one fan wrote on X.
Another posted: “If she wins, [she] will announce debut TV or TS13”, referring to the possibility of Swift’s 13th original studio album.
Further comments appeared beneath a joint Instagram post from the CMA and ABC, including: “Oh, Debut TV [is] coming [for real, for real].” Another supporter wrote: “Taylor, please. The people yearn for debut TV.”
There has been no confirmation from Swift or her representatives that an album announcement is planned. The online theories are based largely on her decision to attend the ceremony despite having only one nomination.
Swift last attended the CMA Awards in 2016, when she presented Garth Brooks with the Entertainer of the Year award. Her return comes as the ceremony celebrates its 60th anniversary.
Lainey Wilson, who is also nominated for Single of the Year, will host the event for the third consecutive year. The CMA has said the nominees were selected by its professional voting membership, which comprises more than 7,000 eligible members from across the country music industry.
