Manchester United and Everton have opened preliminary discussions over a possible Marcus Rashford transfer ahead of the January window.
The talks are understood to be at an early stage, with no decision yet made on whether any agreement would involve a loan or a permanent move for the 28-year-old forward.
Rashford’s future at Old Trafford appeared increasingly uncertain after his season-long loan at Barcelona. However, a permanent switch to the Catalan club did not materialise and he was subsequently brought back into Manchester United’s first-team squad by manager Michael Carrick.
Everton consider Marcus Rashford move
The England international impressed during his time in Spain, making Barcelona’s decision not to exercise their option to sign him permanently appear unexpected.
His return to Manchester United offered the prospect of a fresh start after he had been left out under former manager Ruben Amorim. Rashford has nevertheless found it difficult to establish himself as a regular starter under Carrick and has had limited impact when given opportunities.
Everton could now provide the forward with a new challenge. Manager David Moyes has been credited with helping Jack Grealish improve after his difficult spell at Manchester City, and Rashford could similarly benefit from working under him.
Despite his recent struggles, Rashford’s form at Barcelona was enough to earn him a place in England’s World Cup squad over the summer. The early discussions with Everton could therefore offer him another route towards returning to his best.
