President Trump plans further White House changes after the midterm elections, saying he expects to remove some members of his administration following the departure of chief of staff Susie Wiles.
In a clip released on Friday from an interview with 60 Minutes correspondent Ross Douthat, Mr Trump was asked whether other Cabinet members could be replaced after Stephen Miller took over from Ms Wiles.
“I do. A little bit. I love my cabinet. I think they’re good. But I hope to be doing a few changes. I don’t want to mention who,” the president said.
His comments came days after the Democrats defeated Republicans in the midterm elections. The result left the Republicans in the minority in both the House and Senate, making it more difficult for Mr Trump to advance his agenda during the final two years of his second term.
Mr Trump also said he still had confidence in Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, who has faced pressure from Congress and calls for his resignation from Democrats and some Republicans.
Asked about Mr Hegseth’s position, Mr Trump pointed to what he described as two wars won by the United States during his second term, including one against Venezuela, and credited the secretary with contributing to that success.
Mr Hegseth faces possible articles of impeachment in the House, according to the material released about the interview.
