Duane “Keffe D” Davis has begun serving his 40-year prison sentence in Nevada, with a new mug shot taken after his transfer to the maximum-security High Desert State prison in Indian Springs.
The image shows Davis with a strained expression as he starts his sentence following his conviction in the killing of rapper Tupac Shakur.
A jury found Davis guilty during his August trial. He was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison for the murder.
Prosecutors alleged that Davis organised the September 1996 drive-by shooting in retaliation for Tupac and members of his entourage attacking Davis’s nephew, Orlando Anderson, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Tupac was travelling in a BMW with Suge Knight when he was hit by several bullets from a gun Davis allegedly handed to Anderson. The rapper died six days later, aged 25.
Davis is the only person to have been charged in connection with Tupac’s murder. Anderson has since died, while Davis’s legal team has maintained his innocence and said it plans to appeal the conviction.
