Two women are fighting for their lives after a police car and a Kia sedan crashed into two houses in Bossley Park, in Sydney’s south-west.
The collision happened on Prairie Vale Road at about 12.20pm on Sunday, when police were responding to reports of a child running on a motorway. The police vehicle was travelling with its lights and siren activated.
The Kia and the police car left the roadway after colliding, crashing through a fence and into separate houses. Nobody inside either property was injured.
The Kia’s driver, a woman believed to be in her late 20s, was taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition. Her passenger, a woman in her early 50s, was taken to Liverpool Hospital, also in a critical condition.
The two police officers involved, both 24-year-old constables, were taken to Liverpool Hospital for mandatory testing and treatment for minor injuries.
A critical incident has been declared, with officers from the Crash Investigation Unit examining the circumstances of the crash.
“The investigation will be subject of an independent review by the Professional Standards Command and oversight by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission,” police said in a statement.
