Two helicopters have crashed mid-air near McMinnville Airport in Oregon, south-west of Portland, with the number of people involved still unclear.
The aircraft collided at about 2pm on Thursday local time. Yamhill County Sheriff Sam Elliot confirmed there had been “an aircraft-related incident”, but said further details could not be provided while the investigation was under way.
All lanes of nearby Highway 233 were closed after the aircraft emergency was reported.
The Oregon Department of Transportation advised drivers to take an alternative route, slow down in the area and remain alert for emergency services, moving out of their way when necessary.
