Bradley Barcola missed Liverpool’s main training session ahead of the Premier League meeting with Brighton, but the winger’s absence was described as a precaution rather than an injury concern.
The 24-year-old completed an individual recovery session at Kirkby while his team-mates trained together. His omission prompted concern among supporters, but Liverpool Echo chief correspondent Paul Gorst said there was no reason for alarm.
“Bradley Barcola doing an individual recovery session today rather than joining team training was only a precaution,” Gorst said.
Barcola has started a demanding sequence of domestic and Champions League fixtures, including a hat-trick against LASK. Liverpool’s coaching staff therefore opted to manage his workload and give him additional recovery time before the weekend.
Barcola’s availability could be important against Brighton
Liverpool are preparing to host a Brighton side that has made an impressive start to the Premier League season. The Seagulls sit third in the table with five wins from seven matches and only one defeat, behind just Arsenal and Manchester City.
Brighton have also proved tactically difficult to overcome, meaning Liverpool are likely to need pace and intensity in the wide areas. Barcola’s availability would provide an important option on the flank, particularly with Jeremie Frimpong sidelined by a muscle injury and Dominik Szoboszlai also struggling with fitness.
The French international’s pace and direct style will be valuable as Liverpool seek three points at Anfield, with his individual recovery session intended to ensure he is ready for the contest.
