Federal prosecutors have rejected Pooh Shiesty’s complaints about his jail conditions, arguing that the rapper has access to entertainment, electronic communication and video visits while held alone for up to 23 hours a day.
In a court filing, prosecutors said Shiesty had sent or received 12,342 emails and taken part in 231 video visits, totalling about 45 hours, since 1 July.
They also said he had unlimited access to a tablet providing games, music, Netflix and the NFL Channel. His activity log was described as about 500 pages long, with roughly 30 entries on each page.
Shiesty is asking a judge to return him to the jail’s general population and increase his monthly in-person visiting allowance from two hours to four.
Prosecutors said his separation was partly intended to protect him. They claimed three inmates had previously attempted to enter his area, allegedly hoping to obtain his autograph.
The filing also accused Shiesty of having a history of disrupting jail operations and said he had recently admitted to using fentanyl. These claims have not been tested at trial.
On visits, prosecutors said the rapper received the same privileges as other federal detainees at the facility, adding that nobody appeared to have visited him in person since 27 August.
The government argued that his circumstances did not amount to inhumane treatment and urged the judge to reject his emergency request.
Shiesty has pleaded not guilty to federal charges arising from an alleged kidnapping and robbery involving Gucci Mane at a recording studio in Dallas. He remains in custody awaiting trial.
