Trent Alexander-Arnold could make a short-term return to the Premier League in January as he reassesses his future at Real Madrid, according to transfer insider Indy Kaila.
The England international has reportedly endured a difficult start to his second season in Spain, with limited opportunities under Carlo Ancelotti. A loan move is said to be one option being considered.
Premier League loan move an option for Alexander-Arnold
Writing on X, Kaila said: “Exclusive: Trent Alexander-Arnold to reassess his future at Real Madrid. Sources state a short-term loan move back to the Premier League in January is one option. The player will always have Liverpool in his heart.”
The update indicates that Chelsea and Arsenal are monitoring the 28-year-old’s situation. A return to Liverpool, where Alexander-Arnold began his career, is also presented as a possibility because of his long-standing connection with the club.
Alexander-Arnold has reportedly started only three matches for Real Madrid in La Liga and the Champions League this season. Competition for a place on the right has increased following the arrival of Denzel Dumfries, while Federico Valverde offers Ancelotti another versatile option.
His recent involvement has been particularly limited. Across Real Madrid’s last seven matches in all competitions, the full-back has played 138 minutes.
He was an unused substitute against RB Leipzig, Sevilla, Roma, Atletico Madrid and Rayo Vallecano. His only appearances in that run came against Villarreal, where he played 52 minutes, and Elche, where he featured for 86 minutes.
The reduced game time marks a significant change for a player who was a regular starter at Liverpool. Alexander-Arnold remains valued for his passing and ability to create chances from deep, but he has yet to establish a consistent role in the Real Madrid side.
A temporary return to English football would give him the opportunity to secure more regular minutes, with his next decision expected to centre on whether to remain in Madrid or pursue a Premier League loan in January.
