Arsenal and Manchester United are monitoring Roma defender Wesley Franca, who has emerged as a potential target ahead of future transfer windows.
The 23-year-old Brazilian has made a rapid impression since moving to Serie A and is now reportedly valued at about €60 million (£52 million). That figure is approximately double the package Roma paid Flamengo for his services in 2025.
Newcastle United are also understood to be tracking the full-back, although Arsenal and Manchester United appear to have particularly clear reasons for considering a move.
Wesley Franca’s versatility attracts Premier League interest
Franca first established himself as a right wing-back but has also operated effectively on the left under Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini. His ability to perform on either flank has increased his appeal to clubs seeking defensive players capable of covering several roles.
Manchester United’s interest reflects their desire for greater quality and consistency in the full-back positions. Franca’s pace, strength and willingness to carry the ball forward could offer a different dimension in wide areas.
Arsenal are similarly drawn to defenders who can move between positions and contribute in possession. Mikel Arteta’s side regularly ask their full-backs to take on varied responsibilities during matches, making Franca’s flexibility a potentially valuable asset.
Reports indicate that Arsenal have continued to monitor the player this season, while Manchester United and Newcastle remain in the wider group of clubs watching his progress.
The main uncertainty is whether Franca can reproduce his best form in a conventional back-four role. He has been most effective as a wing-back, where he is given greater freedom to attack.
Roma’s €60 million valuation means any interested club would need to make a substantial investment. Arsenal and Manchester United would therefore have to be satisfied that his age, versatility and attacking qualities could translate successfully to the Premier League.
