Arsenal are facing an injury concern over Christos Tzolis after the winger was forced off 18 minutes into Greece’s Nations League draw with the Netherlands.
Tzolis appeared to suffer a muscular problem shortly after having an early goal ruled out in Thessaloniki. The 24-year-old was visibly upset as Greece’s medical staff attended to him before he was replaced by Giorgos Masouras.
The Arsenal player thought he had put Greece ahead after 13 minutes, but the goal was disallowed after Vangelis Pavlidis was judged to have interfered from an offside position.
Arsenal injury concern awaits further assessment
The nature and severity of the issue have not yet been confirmed, although it appeared to involve Tzolis’s hamstring. He remained on the bench after being substituted and was later seen celebrating Greece’s goals with his team-mates, offering some encouragement.
Greece surrendered a two-goal lead as the Netherlands recovered to draw 2-2 through goals from Virgil van Dijk and Tijjani Reijnders.
The setback will concern Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta because Tzolis has quickly established himself as an important attacking option since joining from Club Brugge during the summer.
The winger has registered four assists in his first eight appearances for the club and has started all five of Arsenal’s Premier League matches so far.
Tzolis is expected to undergo further assessment before the full extent of the injury becomes clear. Arteta will hope the substitution proves precautionary, with Arsenal due to return to domestic action against Leeds United.
