Former US Army major Nidal Hasan is due to be executed by firing squad on 3 December 2026 at Fort Hood, the Texas military post where he killed 13 people in 2009. The execution will be the first carried out by the US military since 1961. Families of the victims were informed of the date before the announcement. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said the use of an Army firing squad had been recommended by Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and approved by President Trump. “Judgement day for Hasan has finally come,” Mr Parnell wrote. Laura Overdeck has returned to court in New Jersey seeking a larger settlement from her estranged husband, billionaire hedge fund manager John Overdeck, in one of the state’s biggest contested divorce cases. The 56-year-old rejected a proposed payout worth more than $600 million and is pursuing a share of John Overdeck’s stake in Two Sigma, the investment firm he co-founded in 2001. Her lawyers argue that she should receive 35 per cent of the value of his holding because the business became a marital asset during their 20-year marriage. The couple married in 2002 without a prenuptial agreement. The valuation…
