Zach Bryan wore a “Free Palestine” shirt during his concert at Gillette Stadium, weeks after Macklemore was barred from performing at the venue following pro-Palestinian remarks. The shirt also carried the words “An appeal to heaven” and a pine tree logo, while some members of his band wore clothing with similar messages. The singer returned to the venue on Saturday night for a concert attended by 73,538 people, according to Gillette Stadium, setting an attendance record. “An appeal to heaven” dates back to the Revolutionary War…
The war on Iran is likely to intensify in the coming weeks rather than move towards a peace deal, according to two former diplomats who were involved in earlier negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear programme. Hossein Mousavian, a former Iranian diplomat, said Iran’s leaders do not believe US claims that the conflict is driven by concerns over nuclear weapons rather than oil. Speaking alongside former US diplomat Alan Eyre, Mousavian argued that the conflict was unlikely to reach either a settlement or a “permanent stalemate” in the near future. Mr Eyre said Donald Trump’s administration preferred quick victories to diplomacy. He…

The rerelease opened with $26 million (£19.5 million) in domestic ticket sales and $86 million worldwide. It became the third-biggest domestic opening for a rerelease, behind the 1997 special edition of Star Wars and the 2011 3D version of The…

Cornell University’s president has called for stronger sexual assault laws in New York after allegations that a former student was drugged and raped by seven members of the university’s Chi Phi fraternity. Michael Kotlikoff said the Ivy League institution would improve sexual assault prevention, hold fraternities and sororities accountable and support efforts to change state law. He described the case as a “defining moment” in Cornell’s history. The former student, known as Jane Doe, filed a civil lawsuit in September alleging that she was pressured to drink high-proof rum and take ketamine before being assaulted in October 2024. None of…
Police logged at least 8,500 sexual offences against children aged 13 or under in England and Wales between 2021 and 2025, including around 2,000 allegations of rape or attempted rape. The figures amount to an average of 4.7 sexual offences involving younger children reported each day. The rape and attempted rape allegations equate to roughly one report connected to a school in England and Wales every day. The data was gathered through freedom of information requests sent to all 43 police forces in England and Wales, with 33 responding. Most reports did not record the age of the alleged offender,…
President Trump has appointed Jay Clayton as the White House’s new artificial intelligence czar, placing the director of national intelligence in charge of a newly announced “Super Intelligence Force”. Trump said the group would help ensure that “America continues to lead the World in Super Intelligence”. He said it would coordinate the federal government’s engagement with consumers, public interest groups, religious organisations, critical infrastructure providers and technology companies. Trump prefers the term “super intelligence” to artificial intelligence. He also named Federal Trade Commission chairman Andrew Ferguson, Office of Personnel Management director Scott Kupor and Emil Michael, the under secretary of…
Donald Trump defended data centres at a rally in Ohio after the facilities became a political liability for Republicans, arguing that shutting them down would allow China to overtake the United States in artificial intelligence. The president’s remarks in south-western Ohio were met with a noticeably quieter response than his attacks on other issues. He spent several minutes promoting his administration’s efforts to ensure data centres benefit local communities and praised Republican Senator Jon Husted’s unsuccessful attempt to advance legislation on the issue. “Look, there’s so much money to be made for Ohio. You can’t just turn them off. They’ll…
