An Ohio woman is suing Selby General Hospital after surgeons allegedly amputated her left leg instead of the cancerous right leg they were meant to remove, leaving her a double amputee. Sharon Jacks, 74, had been due to undergo a below-the-knee amputation at the hospital in Marietta on 19 September 2025. Her lawsuit alleges that the surgical team removed her left leg, despite the right leg having been identified as the operative site. Doctors later amputated Jacks’ right leg at another Ohio hospital, about four months after the first operation. The lawsuit, filed this month in Washington County Common Pleas…
Qantas and Virgin Australia are reportedly pressing for a passenger levy to help meet the higher cost of sustainable aviation fuel, a move that could increase air fares for travellers. The Australian federal government wants airlines to use low-carbon fuel made from agricultural by-products and waste, including used cooking oil. Such fuel can cost between two and five times more than conventional jet fuel. Industry estimates suggest the average 260 Australian dollar fare could initially rise by about one dollar under a levy. That increase could reach between five and 10 dollars by 2040. Graham Turner, chief executive of Flight…
Dame Esther Rantzen’s television reunion between Sir Nicholas Winton and the children he helped rescue from Nazi-occupied Prague has become one of the defining moments of her career. Rantzen, who died yesterday aged 86, used the BBC programme That’s Life! to reveal the wartime efforts of the previously unassuming stockbroker, who had kept his actions largely private for almost half a century. Winton had helped 669 children, most of them Jewish, leave Czechoslovakia for Britain by train in 1939. He also helped arrange sponsorship and homes for them under legislation introduced after Kristallnacht. His story came to light after his…
Walmart is rolling out digital shelf-label tools designed to help shoppers find products and store staff pick and replenish items more quickly. The retailer’s Shop to Light feature allows customers to select a product in the Walmart app, receive directions to the relevant aisle and then flash the product’s digital label to identify it. Following a pilot, the service is being introduced more widely. Two related tools, Pick to Light and Stock to Light, use the same technology to help employees locate items for online orders and restock shelves. All three features are expected to be available across Walmart’s stores…

Hawthorn’s opening offer for Zach Merrett has been rebuffed by Essendon, setting up another difficult trade negotiation between the AFL rivals over the decorated midfielder. The Hawks have put forward picks 15 and 25 in this year’s draft, along with either a second- or third-round selection in a future draft. Essendon has indicated the package is not enough to secure the former captain’s release, according to industry sources familiar with the discussions. The impasse emerged as Merrett collected his seventh Crichton Medal at Essendon’s best-and-fairest dinner in Melbourne on Thursday night. He finished ahead of Sam Durham, with Archie Roberts…

The motive behind the FlyDubai cockpit stabbing remains unclear after the co-pilot allegedly attacked the captain during a flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying it was too early to determine whether the incident was terrorism, a mental health crisis or something else. Mr Netanyahu said he did not believe the incident was a hijacking. Speaking to CBS News, he suggested it appeared to be a suicide attempt, based on an account from passenger Yaniv Hayoun, who helped restrain the attacker. “I don’t think it was a hijacking,” Mr Netanyahu said. He added: “I…
