A Florida woman has been arrested after allegedly leaving her four children, including a two-month-old baby, alone in a North Miami Beach residence while she travelled on a three-day cruise to the Bahamas. Nathalie Belizaire, 29, is facing four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm. Her attorney has denied the allegations. Police became involved after the father of the infant saw a WhatsApp post which appeared to show Belizaire buying a cruise ticket. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has boasted of reshaping the military while the United States is at war with Iran. Hegseth spoke about what he called “PT at the Pentagon” on the day the US military announced it had completed its troop pullout from Iraq. The remarks came as the Pentagon marked the end of the withdrawal, with Hegseth outlining his view of changes to the US military.
The US Senate has rejected a bill targeting data centre electricity costs, blocking a measure that would have required state regulators to consider making major power users pay towards infrastructure built to serve them. The Ratepayer Protection Act fell short of the 60 votes needed to overcome a filibuster, with senators voting 57 to 43 on Wednesday. Only four Democrats – Maggie Hassan, Amy Klobuchar, Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock – joined Republicans in backing it. The legislation had passed the House of Representatives earlier this month by 417 votes to three. Supporters said it would have helped protect households…

The third piece of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic emblems has been unveiled in Rockhampton, offering the first distinctly rounded element in a design still being assembled across Queensland. Andy Burnham has defended his Brexit stance after indicating at the Labour conference that he wanted to reconsider Britain’s long-term relationship with Brussels. The Prime Minister had previously told voters in the Leave-supporting Makerfield constituency that Brexit should not be the focus of the by-election campaign and that he was not advocating Britain rejoining the European Union. Asked whether his latest position reflected what constituents had told him on the doorstep, Mr Burnham said: “I stand by everything I said in the by-election.” He added: “I said that we shouldn’t be going straight to a divisive referendum and that’s not…
