Gold’s retreat from a record high has renewed interest in using retirement savings to buy the precious metal, but the fall in price does not by itself make a 401(k) rollover into a gold IRA the right decision. Gold reached nearly $5,600 an ounce in January before falling to about $4,300 by late September. That puts the metal roughly 23% below its peak and more than $100 lower than it was just a few weeks earlier. The decline may appear to offer investors a more attractive entry point, particularly those who had been waiting for prices to ease. However, gold…
Cara Delevingne led the star arrivals at Tom Ford’s Paris Fashion Week show on Wednesday, stepping out in a striking purple velvet suit at the Place Vendôme. The 34-year-old model paired the plunging two-piece with distinctive glasses as she left Le Bristol Paris before making her way to the event. Kate Moss brought her own dramatic style to the occasion, wearing an unbuttoned blue shirt that revealed a string bralette underneath. She completed the look with a black PVC skirt and heels, with her blue-coloured vape matching the outfit. Shakira made a surprise appearance after travelling from Miami, Florida, wearing…

Tom Cruise added the audience of The Jennifer Hudson Show to his coconut cake list after bringing slices of the signature dessert to share with those in the studio. The actor is known for giving coconut cake to fellow celebrities during the holidays. Hudson asked how she could join the list, only for Cruise to tell her that she was already included. He had also brought enough cake for the programme’s audience, turning the exchange into a shared treat for the studio guests. Hudson responded with a gift of her own, handing out her mother’s traditional pound cake. The talk…

US inflation rose less than expected in August, with the Federal Reserve’s closely watched personal consumption expenditures price index increasing by 0.3% from the previous month. The rise followed a revised 0.1% increase in July and fell short of economists’ expectations for a 0.4% increase, according to Commerce Department data. Annual PCE inflation stood at 3.4% in August, unchanged from the revised figure for July. Core PCE inflation, which excludes food and energy prices, rose by 0.2% over the month, below forecasts of 0.3%. Core prices had increased by a revised 0.1% in July, while the annual rate of core…
The US Justice Department has filed a judicial misconduct complaint against all but one of the federal district judges in Minnesota, accusing them of breaching ethical rules after several spoke publicly about the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement operation. Attorney General Todd Blanche announced the complaint against judges serving on the US District Court for the District of Minnesota. It was filed with the US Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. The complaint names Judges Patrick Schiltz and John Tunheim, along with “anonymous district judges”. Six of Minnesota’s seven federal judges spoke to reporters about Operation Metro Surge, according to…
The Federal Reserve’s inspector general has found no evidence of criminal wrongdoing or administrative misconduct linked to a renovation project whose costs became central to Donald Trump’s campaign against former chair Jerome Powell. The watchdog’s findings, released on Wednesday, followed a review of work on two historic Federal Reserve buildings in Washington DC. The project’s estimated cost has risen to about $2.4 billion, roughly $1 billion above its original budget. “At no point during our evaluation did we find reasonable grounds to believe that a violation of federal criminal law had occurred requiring a referral to the US attorney general,”…
America’s skilled-worker shortage is widening as experienced tradespeople retire faster than younger workers enter the workforce, Mike Rowe has warned. Speaking at a Ford Pro Accelerate panel, the Dirty Jobs host said the imbalance threatened industries ranging from manufacturing to national defence. “For every five tradespeople who retire this year, two replace them,” Mr Rowe said. “Five out, two in. I don’t care how you vote. I don’t care what your politics are. Math doesn’t care either.” He said the shortage of welders, electricians, plumbers and other skilled workers was “real”, “wide”, “getting wider” and “dangerous”. The discussion also featured…
